A Modern Approach to Ancient Practices

In Times of Great Transition, We Need Something to Hold On To

We’re living through an extraordinary moment in history. The ground beneath us feels shaky—globally, culturally, personally.

There’s more connection than ever, yet so many of us feel deeply alone. There’s endless information, but little real clarity. We’re overwhelmed, overstimulated, and exhausted.

We’re navigating uncertainty, polarisation, climate anxiety, collective grief… and on top of that, our own personal struggles. It’s no wonder so many of us are feeling anxious, unregulated, disconnected, and just… untethered.

So, what do we do in times of great unrest?

For me, the answer is ritual. Not as a luxury. As a lifeline. At Scented Fable, I share the tools I come back to again and again when life feels too loud:

  • Meditation

  • Journaling

  • Affirmations

  • Mindful, sensory anchors like scent and flame

Simple, intentional practices that don’t promise to fix everything, but do help you feel something again. Calm. Clarity. A sense of self. Even in the midst of the chaos.

The Numbers Behind

the Numbness

We’re not just imagining it—this disconnection, fatigue, and emotional overload. The data backs it up:

  • 1 in 3 people worldwide experience anxiety at some point in their lives.

  • Nearly 40% of adults say they struggle to sleep well most nights.

  • Up to 80% of people report feeling emotionally overwhelmed or dysregulated on a weekly basis.

  • Stress-related disorders are now one of the leading global health concerns, according to the WHO.

And for women, this burden often runs even deeper. We're twice as likely to experience anxiety, and more often carry the invisible weight of emotional labour, overstimulation, and the mental load of caregiving, responsibility, and holding it all together. Even rest feels like another task we’re failing at.

We’re tired, but we can’t rest. We’re wired, but we’re not awake. We want peace, but we can’t seem to find stillness. Our nervous systems are in overdrive, and we’ve forgotten how to come down.

This is why ritual matters. Not perfection. Not productivity. But grounding, soothing, reconnecting.

That’s where we begin.

MINDFULNESS

This ancient practice. It’s the way of the future.

There are evidence based results to how mindfulness works. Over the last 30 years, there has been academic research in the fields of neuroscience, psychology and medicine that have proven the wide ranging benefits of meditation and mindfulness.

With regular practice, mindfulness can serve as the perfect antidote to stress and anxiety that undermines our health, wellbeing and overall performance. In fact, the studies have shown that it can be truly effective in the treatment of many mental and physical health issues as well as improving performance, relationships, self-worth and wellbeing.

Rituals to Come Back to Yourself

No two days are the same, but these four pillars offer simple, grounding ways to return to your body, your breath, and your inner calm. They are not rules—they’re invitations. And you don’t need to master them all. Even one small ritual can shift your whole day.

Manifestation
Rooted in clarity, intention, and belief. Manifestation begins not with a vision board, but with presence. When you calm your system, your desires become clearer. We use scent, flame, and journaling to anchor those intentions in the real world.

Meditation
A moment of pause. A breath between thoughts. Whether it’s five minutes of stillness, a guided audio, or simply lighting a candle and closing your eyes—meditation helps regulate your nervous system and bring you home to yourself.

Journaling
Journaling is a mirror. It helps you process emotion, spot patterns, and reconnect with your voice. It can be structured or messy, poetic or raw. The point is not what you write—but that you begin.

Affirmations
Your inner voice shapes your outer world. Affirmations are intentional reminders—simple, repeated phrases that help rewire self-belief. We use them with breath, with ritual, or whispered while lighting a flame.

This is how we shift. This is how we come back to ourselves.

Begin Your Ritual

You don’t need hours of silence or a perfect routine. You just need a starting point—and a willingness to come back to yourself.

Soon, we’ll be launching a free Mini Ritual Series—a gentle invitation to explore each of the four pillars in your own time. It’s currently in the works, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

Inside, you’ll eventually find:

  • A guided meditation to help settle your nervous system

  • Journaling prompts to uncover clarity

  • A simple affirmation practice to rewire your inner dialogue

  • A manifestation ritual anchored by scent and intention

For now, stay connected and be the first to know when it’s ready.

Sign up to stay in the loop and start your ritual journey. Because your calm can’t wait.

What people are saying.

  • I TOOK PART IN THE DISCOVER MINDFUL WRITING WORKSHOP ONLINE, AND IT REMINDED ME THAT JUST BY SITTING DOWN WITH A PEN AND NOTEBOOK I COULD SEE AND REMIND MYSELF THE MEANING OF MY OWN WORDS AND THOUGHTS. KATHRYN MADE THE PROCESS FEEL BOTH CHALLENGING AND FUN

  • I HAD THE BEST TIME. I REMEMBERED THAT I COULD WRITE MORE THAN A FEW SENTENCES ASKING SOMEONE FOR SOMETHING! I LOVED THE WAY THAT YOU TOOK US ON THE WRITING JOURNEY, THE PROMPTS, HEARING THE QUESTIONS FROM OTHERS, FEELING LIKE I HAD THE PERMISSION TO WRITE, EVEN THOUGH THAT SOUNDS SILLY. THE DISCOVERY OF SUCH AN OBVIOUS ACT THAT WE'VE LOST TO OUR CRAZY LIVES IS LIKE OPENING A NEW DOOR IN MY LIFE.

  • I'M NOW READY TO EMBRACE ALL OF THE 'BOUGIE' RITUALS! I HAD SO MUCH FUN, I LAUGHED SO MUCH, AND I LEARNT SO MUCH. I NEVER REALLY THOUGHT ABOUT HOW I COULD CREATE LASTING HABITS OR EVEN USE RITUALS TO HELP ME TO KNOW MYSELF. I HAD SO MUCH FUN AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
