Day one: An Introduction To AIM
Welcome to day one of your meditation journey.
In this first session, I am going to be introducing you to a technique called Awareness Insight - this is one of my favourite styles of meditation because quite simply, you become your own anchor. I have found that as I have tried different styles and techniques, that it’s been this practice that has helped me to connect with, well myself the most. This meditation style involves sitting quietly and allowing your attention to rest on whatever arises in your awareness, whether it's thoughts, emotions, physical sensations or external sounds. Sounds simple right? Well I will be honest, the devil is in the detail! We'll explore the benefits of this practice, and how it can help you cultivate greater awareness and clarity.
So find a space to get comfortable, make sure that you’ve got everything that you need (blanket, notebook, water, cushions etc) and that you are in a space where you won’t easily get interrupted.
Your companion guide to Day ONe:
A journal prompt
There is something magical about putting pen to paper. As you move through the next 7 days I will share with you some journal prompts to help you to start to reflect on you as you go. As we start our journey into awareness, I want you to turn inward and think about the areas in you life that you are settling for less than you deserve. Maybe there are things that you are doing that could be considered self-sabotage or where you are keeping yourself small. Once you are aware of these then you can start to think about what you can do to get back on track.
Where in my life am I settling for less than I deserve. What is one thing that I can do to step back into my worth?
An affirmation
Gosh, I love affirmations they are an everyday essential for me. It’s not always been this way, I’ll admit. When I was first introduced to them I felt that they wouldn’t work, they were too simple. There was even some embarrassment with them. I started to research them and to use them and the more that I came to understand them, the more that I came to incorporate them into my everyday habits. Now, there are somethings that you need to know with affirmations. You need to relate to what you are saying, sure have it aspirational but don’t make it out of reach. You mind has to relate to it. I have one for you to try for today, but feel free to swap it to something else.
“I love the person that I am. I love the person that I am becoming.”
Try saying this repeatedly, in front of a mirror. Say it as many times that you need to. Note how you feel when you start. Note how you feel when you finish. Write it on a post-it note and take it with you throughout the day. Say it anytime and as many times as you need to.
