DIY: Aloe Vera & Rose Facial Mist

I have a love that runs deep for face mist. I fell in love with them in my 20’s and then add in a couple of pregnancies, a few rounds with the flu and then COVID - this love just grew and grew!

I use them all the time, in the morning to give a boost of moisture and glow, throughout the day when I feel a little tired and before bed, after I’ve cleansed. I also have found them wonderful when I’ve been feeling a little stressed. Infused with herbs, botanicals, essential oils - they are the power house that you never thought you needed (or maybe you do know, you clever thing!).

A facial mist was something that I knew that I wanted to try and make myself. Yes, there are some incredible mists out there, but there is something lovely about blending mixes to suit your exact needs - and they are outrageously easy too! So, give it a go - create your very own facial mists!

Here is a recipe for one that I always have on the go, in a pocket, in my bag - even in the car! It is suitable for face and hair, but as always, try this out carefully and adjust if you need to.

Aloe & Rose Facial Mist

Just a couple of notes, I have added Witch Hazel and Bladderwrack Extract - you don’t need these, however they give the whole recipe a lovely boost!

Ingredients:

  • Distilled Water – 50 ml (provides a light, refreshing base)

  • Aloe Vera Juice – 20 ml (hydrates and soothes skin and hair)

  • Rosewater (Hydrosol) – 20 ml (tones skin and adds a soft fragrance to hair and body)

  • Witch Hazel (Alcohol-Free) – 5 ml (gentle toner for face and scalp)

  • Cucumber Extract or Hydrosol – 5 ml (soothes skin, cools and hydrates hair)

  • Bladderwrack (Seaweed) Extract – 3 ml (mineral-rich, softens skin and hair)

  • Vegetable Glycerin – 3 ml (locks in moisture)

Essential Oils:

  • Thyme Essential Oil – 1 drop (antioxidant)

  • Chamomile Essential Oil – 1 drop (soothes skin and scalp, gentle for hair)

Instructions:

  1. In a sterilized spray bottle, combine distilled water, aloe vera juice, rosewater, witch hazel, cucumber extract, and bladderwrack extract.

  2. Add glycerin and essential oils. Cap the bottle and gently roll or shake to mix the ingredients well.

  3. Store in a cool, dark place. Use within 2-3 weeks.

Usage:

  • Hair: Lightly mist on dry or damp hair to hydrate and refresh, focusing on the ends and avoiding the roots to prevent any potential build-up.

  • Face: Mist over your face as needed to refresh, hydrate, or use as a toner after cleansing.

  • Body: Spray all over to hydrate and lightly scent the skin, especially after a shower.
