Welcome to the world of Scented Fable.

We are an Auckland based design studio making hyper realistic sculptural candles inspired by food and nature. Candles designed to trick the eye.

Our founder, Kathryn Mole, began by hunting through produce aisles (always asking, can it candle) choosing fruit and vegetables with just the right shape, curve, or bump. Those pieces are cast to create faithful replicas, then finished by hand. Lemons, apples, tomatoes, fennel. Familiar forms, held in wax.

Candles that do what candles do, but look like something else entirely.

What started as a series of experiments in 2019 has grown into a small, considered collection stocked by design led spaces and cultural institutions. The work sits between still life and functional object. Always playful. We take the craft seriously, just not ourselves.

Everything is designed and made in Auckland, from the moulds through to the packaging. The process is careful and deliberate. To create the intentionally deceptive. We like to think that we create the ultimate conversation starters “is that really a candle?”. The most perfect gifts for the impossible to buy for. Objects that feel irreverent, but considered enough to sit comfortably in even the most luxurious of spaces.
