Journaling: FLOWER POWER

We are all flowers growing towards the light

- Boy George

Looking for a little journaling inspiration? Look no further than the garden!

I have adored this summer and luckily we still have many more days in the sun. It got me thinking about how I could make the most of this time, to get out in nature and to spark a little creativity. It’s even something that the kids can join in, or I can use it as some me time, an artist’s date!

I’m also a huge believer that nature is a fantastic cure-all. It helps to give a little perspective when you need it. It helps to remind you that no matter what is going on, the sun will rise, the flowers will grow, the birds and the insects will be there, the waves will still break.

Nature holds the key to our aesthetic, intellectual, cognitive and even spiritual satisfaction.

The Practice

  1. Grab a notebook, paper, whatever it is that you want to create with.

  2. Pick a spot, go close to home in the garden, perhaps you’ve got a special place to drive to, to walk to, pick a spot that is bursting with inspiration, whatever that looks like to you.

  3. Now, you can draw, colour, paint or

  4. Use these prompts:

    1. Pick a flower, as you look at it, what thoughts start to bubble to the surface

    2. When was the last time that you allowed yourself to sit with beauty?

    3. What do flowers mean to you? What does this flower mean to you?

    4. Can you draw your feelings?

    5. Can you name your feelings, your thoughts?

    6. What do they mean for you in this moment?

    7. What is one thing that you can do to bring nature, in all of it’s beauty and glory, into your everyday life? The simpler the better!
