Medusa. A symbol of protection (known as a Gorgoneion) in ancient Greece, Rome and Etruscan cultures, and more recently, she has become a universal symbol of power and feminine rage. Medusa has been a best seller for us many times (and has sold out numerous times!) and is making a well earned come back for a limited time in our spring / summer collection colours.
She is a complete show stopper. Each candle is crafted by hand using the finest of materials and cast in the vibrant colours, inspired by the English countryside in bloom.
The Details:
Made from natural soy wax. Burn time is approximately 20+ hours depending on placement of the candle (think drafts etc).

Height - 20 cm
Width - 19 cm
and comes in at a whopping 1.5kg in weight.
Care:
To get the most out of these candles, do not burn your candles for more than 2 hours at a time. Keep the wick trimmed to 5mm. Please keep your candles on a non-flammable surface - use a candle tray so that you don’t damage your beautiful furniture. Never leave a burning candle unattended, near children or pets.

A Little Bit About Medusa
There are varying origin stories for Medusa, it is said that she was one of three sisters, children of a god and Medusa being the only mortal. She was said to be incredibly beautiful but equally terrifying. When she was caught with the god Poseidon by the goddess Athena who then punished Medusa by transforming her beautiful hair into horrible snakes. Another version of her story is that she was a stunningly beautiful young woman, attacked in the temple of Athena who then transformed Medusa into a Gorgon - a monster with snakes for hair - in her rage. Medusa would never be touched by a man again, as she could turn them to stone with a simple gaze. Her story seems to be linked, victim and aggressor. Perhaps her story was based on a real person, an ancient memory reconstructed from a terrible event to the story that we know now.
She has become a symbol of feminism for many, and an icon through the ages for protection and a guardian. Medusa has come to be seen as a potent symbol of power for women and of feminine rage.

Designed for all of your bougie rituals - these candles are created to be lit. However, if you are after sculptured beauty - then you are in the right place. A clean, non-toxic candle blended in a natural soy with a lead-free, unbleached 100% cotton wick and made blend of safe synthetic dye and naturally-derived ingredients. Hand-poured in New Zealand, in small batches. Please note that because these are made in small batches, it can take 3-4 days before dispatch.
