Our Medusa candle is sculpted from 100% pure, ethically sourced New Zealand beeswax. A fierce, enigmatic showpiece - at 1.5kg, she is both commanding and impossible to ignore.

Once a beautiful priestess, Medusa was transformed into a monster to be feared. For millennia, women have carried her image as a protective symbol - a Gorgon - guarding those who speak their truth.

Each piece is hand-poured and finished, unscented to honour the honeyed aroma of pure beeswax. She burns slowly, shape-shifting over time — a living flame, a ritual of transformation.

Ritual Care

  • Place on a heat-resistant, non-flammable surface or tray.

  • Keep the wick trimmed to 5mm.

  • Burn for no more than 2 hours at a time.

  • As a sculptural piece, Medusa burns uniquely — expect drips, evolving shapes, and an imperfect, beautiful ritual.

A Little Bit About Medusa

There are varying origin stories for Medusa, it is said that she was one of three sisters, children of a god and Medusa being the only mortal. She was said to be incredibly beautiful but equally terrifying. When she was caught with the god Poseidon by the goddess Athena who then punished Medusa by transforming her beautiful hair into horrible snakes. Another version of her story is that she was a stunningly beautiful young woman, attacked in the temple of Athena who then transformed Medusa into a Gorgon - a monster with snakes for hair - in her rage. Medusa would never be touched by a man again, as she could turn them to stone with a simple gaze. Her story seems to be linked, victim and aggressor. Perhaps her story was based on a real person, an ancient memory reconstructed from a terrible event to the story that we know now.

She has become a symbol of feminism for many, and an icon through the ages for protection and a guardian. Medusa has come to be seen as a potent symbol of power for women and of feminine rage.

Designed for all of your bougie rituals - these candles are created to be lit. However, if you are after sculptured beauty - then you are in the right place. A clean, non-toxic candle blended in a natural soy with a lead-free, unbleached 100% cotton wick and made blend of safe synthetic dye and naturally-derived ingredients. Hand-poured in New Zealand, in small batches. Please note that because these are made in small batches, it can take 3-4 days before dispatch.
